Alzheimer's and Other Dementias
Developing More Effective Treatments

Let’s help put an end to one of the most devastating maladies of our time.

Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. This progressive, irreversible, and fatal brain disease steadily robs its victims of the ability to think, remember, and reason.

Currently, 53,000 Mississippians are suffering from Alzheimer’s. Many thousands more are affected by the emotional, physical, and financial ripple effects of the disease as they struggle to provide care and support for those affected.

And incidences of Alzheimer’s are rising as our population ages. By mid-century, the number of people age 65 or older with Alzheimer’s may nearly triple.

That’s why we must act now.

The Manning Family Fund for a Healthier Mississippi supports the work of the UMMC Memory Impairment and Neurodegenerative Disease Center, or MIND Center.

The MIND Center is one of the nation’s leading centers of Alzheimer’s research, diagnosis, and treatment. Its dedicated staff of clinicians and researchers are committed to fighting neurodegenerative diseases and providing leading-edge dementia care to patients across the state.

The MIND Center Research

Drawing upon 25-plus years of research data, state-of-the-art brain imaging, and powerful new genetic technologies, the center’s research team is pushing the frontiers of science and medicine as they explore the causes of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

By uncovering those causes and risk factors, the researchers—led by Tom Mosley, PhD, a nationally recognized leader in the study of cognitive decline—hope to develop more efficient diagnosis protocols and more effective treatments.

The ultimate goal: prevention. Or even a cure.

The MIND Center Clinic

The MIND Center also provides compassionate medical and emotional support for Mississippians and their families who are battling Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Located on the UMMC campus in Jackson, The MIND Center Clinic provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and outpatient care, backed by Mississippi’s only academic medical center.

The clinic’s neurologists, geriatricians, social workers, and nurse practitioners work together to create an individualized treatment plan for each patient, and provide caring and confidential counseling, education, and support for loved ones. The clinic is also a point of access for patients interested in taking part in clinical trials.

Through UMMC Telehealth, The MIND Center delivers that same high level of care to patients in rural and underserved communities throughout Mississippi, helping to lessen the stress of travel for patients and their caregivers.

Remember, what we do today changes what happens tomorrow. Please help us make a healthier Mississippi by donating to the Manning Family Fund.
